Flagstaff Weather Forecast Dec. 8th, 2007

Posted in by Jeff Thorsett

Finally a Flagstaff weather forecast that reminds of the pre-Bush globally cold days. It really probably won’t do anything, but we can at least hope.

Flagstaff Really Blows

Posted in by Jeff Thorsett

Well, with the new sailboat, one would think I would be hoping for windy days. I always am looking for a great day to sail, but my goodness, today would have been downright scary out there. Check out these winds:

NWS Current Observations

Gusts to 60 mph at noon was a bit too much for the Puffer.

Court Rules Against Snowmaking

Posted in by Jeff Thorsett

The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled against the Arizona Snowbowl using reclaimed water to artificially make snow on the San Francisco Peaks. In their opinion the court writes that

  • “the Forest Service’s approval of the Snowbowl’s use of recycled sewage effluent to make artificial snow on the San Francisco Peaks violates [the] Religious Freedom Restoration Act”
  • “in one respect the Final Environmental Impact Statement prepared in this case does not comply with [the] National Environmental Protection Act”

You can read the entire opinion here: Navajo Nation vs. USFS.
This decision comes less than 24 hours after they shut down the lifts, potentially for the season. I applaud the court’s decision.
