Squeezebox Fun
Well my brother convinced me by saying something along the lines of, “You don’t have one???!”, to buy a squeezebox. All I can say it is the greatest gizmo a music freak/archivist could have.
There are a couple things I truly love about this thing: it can play flac files off my vault, and it can stream pretty much anything anyone would ever want to listen to from the live music archive to your home stereo.
I can see this alleviating the pain when His Borkness crashes on the couch and keeps asking me for something from ‘75. Endless searches through the discs piled high on the fireplace mantle are a thing of the past. The remote control has the power to peruse 2800+ (at last check) Grateful Dead shows by year, not to mention all the other music on the LMA.
The folks who made the device have also provided a pretty decent skinnable web interface for their server, with an undockable player controller thingy.

It is nice if your computer is located next to the stereo (which mine is) so as to save your ears from wearing headphones.
With external hard drives at less than $.50/GB nowadays I think my azureus will be pretty busy pointed at etree again. Thanks Stephen!

I’ll need to go to slimdevices for my kickback. Best thing is that you can listen to XPN on Sunday evenings as easily as if you lived in New Jersey, without having to live in New Jersey.

PS. I like your new web design.
